Waka Flocka Talks New Album & Joint Mixtape with French Montana
Waka Flocka spoke to Billboard's the Juice on his upcoming album, "Triple F Life," his single with Drake and a collaborative project with French Montana. Check out what he had to say on it.
On The Album:
"It felt like a rushed project. I'm going to do it first quarter (2012) because I need to put my all into it," Waka Flocka continued on his recently pushed back album, "Triple F Life." "I felt like I was trying to please the label and not the people that really listen to the music."
On "Round of Applause":
"I said, 'Who do I need on the song to get some ladies into it?' Let me call Drake! I met him through the engineer, we put that track together, and that was it."
On A Joint Mixtape with French Montana:
"When I met French Montana I thought he was a good artist. When he first came out about two years ago, I felt if I started dealing with him, maybe he'll grow as an artist. He really did. He's workin!"
This joint mixtape, called "Lock Out" is hosted by DJ Green Lantern and DJ Drama. It's supposed to be released on December 9th. As well, Waka mentioned that he was trying to get DMX on a track for "Triple F Life", saying, "he needs to get back on the scene!"

Machine Gun Kelly Speaks On "Lace Up," Drake & More
Machine Gun Kelly spoke to RESPECT about a variety of topics, including working with DMX, Mac Miller topping the charts, his upcoming album and Drake.
On His Album "Lace Up":
RESPECT: You said it’s going to be timeless. What did you do differently in the process to really ensure the music lasts?
MGK: I didn’t speak on any subjects that can limit that. I didn’t speak on any subjects- there’s no cars, money, clothes, hoes. I think it’s been the same with all my mixtapes really. I think all my mixtapes- I mean, Rage Pack is kind of for the now, but Lace Up mixtape and 100 Words and Running mixtape, where I spit over all industry tracks, are timeless raps. I think you could go back and play those records 15 years from now and be like, “Goddamn, that kid could rap his ass off."
On Drake:
And Drake brought you out to perform “Wild Boy” in Cleveland. What does someone like Drake mean to hip-hop? He shows so much love to everyone? He embraces all the younger artists.
MGK: It’s fucking cool. It’s tight. You know, I learned from that. I learn from him when he speaks how he does, when he acts how he does towards other artists. It definitely makes me mature as a young artist, it makes me be like, “Okay, maybe shunning people is not the route.” Not that I do that, per se, but I definitely do have a lot of competitiveness in my blood, where I’ll be like, “Shit, muthafucker, I want that number one spot.” But when you see Drake who has the number one spot so willingly give it all, it’s cool.
On The Music Industry:
You had one lyric which really stood out for me recently, “Colleges only come around here looking for Brett Favre.” The record industry seems like the perfect analogy for college these days because you can become educated on your own. Like Mac Miller sells 100,000 records and becomes number one. How do we break down the stigma attached to not attending college, for artists?
MGK: Fuck this industry, man. I can’t tell you anything about it. I’m not an industry muthafucker. I don’t pay attention to shit that goes on in the industry. I don’t give a fuck who sold 100,000 records. I don’t give a fuck if I sell 100,000 records. I don’t give a fuck who’s number one. All I want to do is change the world for my generation of kids, and I know that no artists who’s out, or is coming out, is going to do that except for me.
A$AP Rocky Talks On His First Time Rapping, Clams Casino & Araab
A$AP Rocky chopped it up with Pitchfork's Selector and talked about how he first got into rapping because of his brother, and the difference between the "ambient beats" produced by Clams Casino and Araab.
On The First Time He Started Rapping:
“I first started rapping when I was eight years old. My brother put me on to it, he told me to kick out and bust out with a freestyle,” he said. “He was banging on the table with a pencil and he had like a tape deck recorder and he was recording himself live and I just started rapping off the top. From there, he gave me enough confidence to pursue rap. So I owe him.”
On The Difference Between Clams Casino & Araab:
“They both have the same kind of ambient feel to it, it’s just one is more raw and the other is more intriguing and classical,” he said. “For instance, araab would make an ambient beat but it’s something that sounds hard - pause. And Clams, he might make an ambient beat and it’s like druggy and it makes you want to lay back and go to sleep and rest in the clouds. I learned how to manifest people to like both.
T.I. Salutes Eminem For Sticking By His Side
In part two of Billboard’s interview with T.I., the rapper talks about his relationship with Eminem and the continued support he’s received from him. While he hasn’t been in touch with Em since his release, TIP praised Marshall for reaching out and setting the precedent for others to follow.
“I haven’t had a chance to speak to Em since I’ve been home,” T.I. said. “I heard that while I was down, he was trying to get in contact with me, but I don’t know if the dots just didn’t connect. [Eminem] overcoming his own adversities, winning the battle against his own demons and continuing to break the mold and re-set the standard of what it means to be the most successful hip-hop artist in the game … I salute that to no end.”
“I love what he’s doing with Slaughterhouse. I love the move that he made to sign Yelawolf. And the record with him and Royce da 5′9″ … that record is going h.a.m. He killed that BET Hip-Hop Awards cypher. I’ve been peeping the move[ment].”

Wale On "Ambition," Advice from Jay-Z & More
Wale graces the cover of Billboard this month alongside the Boss, Rick Ross, and the article talks on his first album "Attention Deficit," joining MMG, "Ambition" and more. Check out some excerpts below.
On MMG:
Enter Rick Ross. The Def Jam Recordings artist was looking for acts to sign to his then-homeless Maybach Music Group imprint. Ross reached out to Wale at Delaware State University after a homecoming show at which they'd both performed. They spoke in Ross' dressing room, and then kept in touch afterward. "I was on his radar," Wale says. "Ross had the vision from the start."
Wale officially joined MMG/Warner Music Group in February. "Ross believed in him," says Joie Manda, Warner Bros. Records executive VP/head of urban music. "And when Ross came in and played Wale's records, I believed also."
Wale was heavily featured on Maybach's summer compilation effort, "Self Made, Vol. 1.," which has sold 183,000 copies, according to SoundScan. The track "That Way," featuring Ross and R&B crooner Jeremih with Wale headlining, was the set's last single but also seemed like "Ambition's" unofficial first.

On Advice Wale Got From Jay-Z:
Wale has good advice coming from all directions. "Jay-Z, essentially, is my business adviser," Wale says. "Him, Rich and [Roc Nation's] John Meneilly. I know Jay has a personal place in his heart for Ambition. I remember one time I was on the phone with Jay, asking him, 'What did I do [wrong]? What can I do differently?' He was like, 'Maybe you just didn't come with that single. You made a solid first album. But you didn't come up with that single.' That just added fuel to my fire."
On "Ambition":
"Ambition" is a concentrated effort, mostly stripped of big-name producers. It builds on Wale's go-go base, bringing a genre whose most notable hits are 1986's "Da Butt" by Experienced Unlimited and "Sardines" by Junkyard Band, screeching into 2011 with tracks like "Don't Hold the Applause" and "Double M Genius." Along with Wale's ever-improving rhymes, the album boasts several of those strong, radio-ready records.
"'That Way' is the biggest radio record of his career," Manda says. And it's no coincidence that his charming single "Lotus Flower Bomb" (with ByStorm/Jive R&B singer Miguel) also targets women. Wale has a tendency toward romance. "His marketing director Shari Bryant is super-serving his female fan base and making sure they know how great he is, and how he's speaking to them," Manda says. Wale credits the response to the single (which is No. 5 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs after seven weeks, making it one of the chart's fastest-rising tracks of the year) to its honesty-and his zodiac sign. "'Lotus Flower Bomb' is a real love song. It's no secret. I'm a Virgo. I love love."

T.I Covers VIBE Magazine’s Year-End Issue
We already saw Eminem and Yelawolf‘s cover last week and today we get a look at the other half of VIBE’s Year-End Issue featuring T.I.
T.I. on people criticizing Tiny for not taking the drug charge.
“I’ma tell you, 50 Cent and anybody else, we not gonn’a have no discussion about what my ole lady should’a, would’a, couda done for anything as it pertains to me,” begins his rant. “We ain’t gonn’a do that. I’m the only one in my family that’s gonna take a lick when it pertains to the legal system. Since me, none of my other family members have seen a jail cell. Nobody. I’m the last one. The buck stops here. I feel that a person that stands behind [his woman for a criminal charge] is a coward anyway.”
VIBE: I doubt she would have gotten any time.
T.I.: She wasn’t gonna catch it period, ’cause I’m there. That wasn’t even a consideration. Even if she asked me to I would’ve been like, “Nah, you trippin’.”
So you didn’t feel you were more valuable to your family, employees and business partners on the street?
That’s a discussion between me and another man. Not with the mother of my children. Not with the nurturer of my household.

Rick Ross & Wale Cover Billboard Magazine
The latest issue of Billboard's magazine features Rick Ross and Wale on the cover.
Rick Ross discusses Maybach Music Group, Wale's success with "Ambition,", his seizures, and the delay of his next album "God Forgives." Check out some excerpts below & the cover.
On MMG:
"I said to [Ross], 'I think we could build something great together. You could build the next Cash Money,'" says Joie Manda ( @joeyie), executive VP/head of urban music at Warner Bros. Records. "And he said, 'That's what I want to do. That's my dream.'"
MMG sports an assortment of lyrical styles, but just when Ross needed to prove the power of his brand, Wale released his sophomore album, "Ambition," to stunning results on Nov. 1. The Washington, D.C. rapper's 2009 debut, "Attention Deficit," sold 28,000 copies in its first week, and Interscope Records eventually dropped him. However, with Ross executive-producing (with Wale), and relentlessly promoting "Ambition" (he even set the avatar of his @rickyrozay Twitter account, which sports 1.5 million followers, with Wale's album artwork), the album sold 164,000 copies in its first week, according to Nielsen SoundScan. It's an improbable comeback that Wale acknowledges in the liner notes of the new LP. "Rick Ross," it says simply, "thank you for giving me my shot."
On Rozay's Seizures:
On Oct. 14, 18 days before the release of Wale's "Ambition," Ross suffered a seizure aboard a Memphis-bound plane, on his way to opening a Wingstop restaurant franchise. The medical scare required an emergency landing and treatment at a Fort Lauderdale hospital, and when Ross tried to fly from Florida later that day, he suffered another medical setback and was rushed to an emergency room in Birmingham, Ala.
One month later, Ross says that he "feels great," and although rumors abound about his physical state, he chalks up the scares to a "lack of sleep." The incidents have delayed the release of the anticipated "God Forgives, I Don't," his spectacularly titled fifth full-length originally slated to arrive Dec. 13. Island Def Jam (IDJ) senior VP of marketing Chris Atlas says that the album is now expected "around first quarter, maybe early second quarter" (Billboard.com, Nov. 17).

Island Def Jam (IDJ) senior VP of marketing Chris Atlas says that the album is now expected "around first quarter, maybe early second quarter" (Billboard.com, Nov. 17).
On "God Forgives":
In the meantime, Ross is still firing on all cylinders, spending marathon studio sessions tweaking "God Forgives" and other projects. He's a tireless worker, literally -- longtime manager Alex "Gucci Pucci" Bethune says that he and Ross usually get about three hours of sleep per night. Ross is constantly thinking, talking and tweeting about MMG, and wants "God Forgives" to pack the epic scope of a Brian De Palma film -- hence the title.
"This album is almost like a movie," Ross says. "I wanted [the title] to be something that was extremely emotional, to set up a real roller coaster ride as far as the music and thought process. It sounds like a term of retaliation, and with the picture that I'm painting, it felt perfect."

Eminem Interviews Yelawolf Via Twitter
With the release of Yelawolf's debut album "Radioactive" yesterday, Eminem took to Twitter to interview his Shady Records signee on the album. Incase you weren't online yesterday, you can read the Eminem & Yelawolf convo below.
Eminem: Where you at celebrating the release of #radioactive? U are a true fan. How’s it feel to finally have #radioactive out there?
Yelawolf: Sup cracker dick?… I’m in a JackDaniels bottle homie… Watchin 8mile again… shits crazy… it really happened.
ok white dawg. So when did you start recording #Radioactive?
In Vegas about 10 months ago, in January. Then I played it for you later that month. We had about 12 keepers.
Sure did. What song from #Radioactive is your favorite?
Today, its “hardest love song”. I played it live with a band rehearsing for the Jimmy Kimmel show… sounded saucy.
Really? Why is that your favorite?
Well it varies from day to day, yesterday I was on “Gutter” all day… It was raining and I was on some dark shit.
Who or what inspired you the most while recording #Radioactive?
Man… I just used the people around me… every one who was involved… and of course life experience.
Why did you call it #radioactive?
Its the fall out to my journey so far. The #Radioactive material that came after the war. The uphill battle to get here……My science experiment gone right.
Now they said to ask some stupid ones. Batman or Superman?
If I had to pick, Batman. But my uncle Critter could kick both their ass in a single bound & shot gun a beer at the speed of light. BAMA!
R u going to the mall later?
Why?… You need some new air max ? hahahaa Honky Kong !!
If u could play #radioactive for any person in the world, who would it be?
That bitch ass motherfucker who threw my demo at my feet from his car window in 05… I was holding my 1 year old son……now my son is 7 and he’s got anything he wants. Thank you Marshall.

Drake's 'Take Care' Expected To Sell Over 700K Copies In First Week
By Dionne Buxton
Drake is making “Headlines” with projections that his album sales will bump Mac Miller from the prized #1 spot on the music charts. Take Care is currently predicted to sell between 675,000 and 725,000 its its first week, putting Drake in the running for the third best first-week sales of 2011. The Young Money rapper is competing with Lady Gaga’s Born This Way, which sold 1.1 million copies in its first week and, of course, Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter IV which almost reached a million.
If the predictions are accurate, this will also gave Drake his second chart-topping album, after his 2010 debut Thank Me Later sold 447,000 copies in the first week. Take Care has been led by the singles “Headlines,” “Marvin’s Room” and “Make Me Proud,” all of which were passed through Drake’s in-house producer Noah “40” Shebib before they made the final cut for the album.
When MTV News caught up with the Young Money rapper before the record dropped, he explained that the new LP charts his personal growth and offers a different perspective from previous albums. “I have way more going on in my life, so I can never be that kid that wants it,” he said, referring to his state of mind on 2009's So Far Gone mixtape. “I can’t, ’cause I have it, so I have to tell you now about having it. That’s just an evolution of a human being. Hopefully people can listen to my stories and accept that fact that life has changed for me.”
